Gotham Wrestling rolled into West Nyack, New York on April 26 with the launch of a brand-new tournament concept as Commissioner Little Guido unveiled the Five Boroughs Classic.
Guido announced that each episode will represent one of New York City’s five boroughs, beginning this week with The Bronx. Every show will open with a six-man tag team match featuring competitors in that borough’s block. The members of the winning team will then face each other in a three-way main event, with the winner advancing. The five winners—one from each borough—will meet in a high-stakes Skyscraper Match at Sunday Night Slam in Los Angeles, California, where the victor will receive $50,000 personally awarded by Guido.
The opening bout featured “Thicc Daddy” Andy Brown, Jarrett Diaz and “Platinum” Max Caster taking on The Backseat Boyz (JP and Tommy Grayson) and Nick Dos Santos in the opening Bronx block matchup. Tensions flared late when Diaz tagged himself into the match and stole the pinfall victory for his team, advancing himself, Brown and Caster to the night’s three-way main event. After the bell, Caster confronted Diaz over his selfish actions.
Backstage, Brandon Sokler caught up with “The Greek God” Papadon, who vowed to make the most of the opportunity in front of him and warned “Main Evant” Evan Daniels that he had just gotten the best—and the baddest.
Before their championship clash, Daniels insulted the West Nyack crowd and bragged about his reign as UWN Television Champion. Papadon interrupted and verbally tore into Daniels, mocking his appearance and calling him a “Temu Power Ranger” before promising to leave him staring at the lights.
Daniels ultimately retained the UWN Television Championship against Papadon in controversial fashion. With Papadon trapped in the corner, Daniels grabbed the referee to create a distraction, then delivered a low blow before planting Papadon with Lasting Impression for the tainted victory.
Elsewhere, reigning Gotham Tag Team Champions 5150—Danny Limelight and Slice Boogie—sent in comments from Los Angeles. Limelight said the duo plans to pay Commissioner Guido a visit and compared him to The Penguin, while Boogie demanded legitimate competition from established tag teams instead of makeshift pairings.
Backstage once again, tensions boiled over among the Bronx block finalists. Diaz and Brown argued over Diaz stealing the earlier win before Caster reminded both men he was the team captain. Brown fired back, saying he was sick of both of them and vowed to beat them both in the main event.
In the ring, Alyssa Marino introduced Pat Buck, AEW Vice President of Talent Development. Buck praised the roster and fans before being interrupted by Leo Sparrow, who mockingly offered Buck spinach and claimed he was being overlooked despite being “born a star.” Buck responded by saying Sparrow was impatient and had taken shortcuts instead of becoming the wrestler he was trained to be. Buck promised that if Sparrow won his upcoming match, he would apologize and shake his hand. Sparrow confidently declared Buck would soon realize that the wrestling world revolves around him.
In the night’s main event, Max Caster outlasted Jarrett Diaz and Andy Brown in a three-way match to win The Bronx block and advance to the Skyscraper Match at Sunday Night Slam. In the closing moments, Caster stole the victory by rolling up Diaz while Diaz had Brown pinned, punching his ticket to Los Angeles and moving one step closer to the $50,000 prize.
