Former WWE and AEW star Jake Hager has reportedly undergone a second eye surgery following a serious injury sustained while competing in Dana White’s Power Slap league.

According to a report from Slap News, Hager required urgent surgery to repair a detached retina after doctors discovered the issue during a follow-up appointment. The latest update was reportedly provided by Hager’s fiancée, Patricia Blackburn, with doctors indicating that the procedure went better than expected.

Hager, 44, suffered the initial injury during his Power Slap 23 matchup against Johnny Magna in Lubbock, Texas. Following a strike from Magna, blood was seen coming from Hager’s eye, creating a frightening moment that quickly circulated across social media. Power Slap and its president, Dana White, refrained from showing replays of the incident.

Hager reportedly suffered a globe rupture as a result of the strike and subsequently underwent surgery to repair the damage. However, as the bleeding in his eye began to clear, doctors discovered that his retina had become detached, necessitating the additional procedure.

Slap News reported the following regarding Hager’s latest medical development:

“As the blood in Jake Hager’s eyes began to clear, doctors discovered during his weekly follow-up that his retina was detached. He underwent urgent surgery to reattach it, which doctors said went better than expected.”

Hager transitioned to Power Slap after concluding his runs with WWE and All Elite Wrestling. His record in the slap-fighting promotion includes a victory over Devin Jenkins in his debut, followed by consecutive defeats against Amanpreet Singh and Magna.

His loss to Singh also saw Hager suffer a knockout, adding to the difficult stretch he has experienced since entering the competition.

As of this writing, neither Hager nor Power Slap has publicly commented on the latest surgery or provided an official timetable for his potential return to competition. His recovery from the serious eye injury remains the primary concern following the latest medical update.
