New Japan Pro-Wrestling made a major announcement before the start of its G1 Climax event on July 19 at the Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center, revealing plans to hold a unique live wrestling event inside New Chitose Airport later this year.
NJPW President Hiroshi Tanahashi was joined in the ring by Yusuke Kimura of Hokkaido Airports to officially announce that New Japan will present a special event at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaidō on September 18.
The event is being held as part of the airport’s 100th anniversary celebration. The year 2026 marks a century since the first airplane landed in the city of Chitose, and Hokkaido Airports has organized a series of commemorative events based on ideas submitted by its employees.
One of those winning ideas was to stage a professional wrestling event in the middle of the airport, leading to the partnership with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Additional details regarding the September 18 event are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
