Match One:
Josh Briggs Defeated Je’Von Evans Via Pinfall
This grudge match started before the bell had a chance to ring, as a very motivated Evans flung his body at the larger Briggs. Once the match officially started, Evans continued to take out his frustrations on the man who has been tormenting him for the past number of weeks. Briggs used his power advantage to ground the high flyer, imposing his will with malice and disregard. After things spilled to the outside and a hard hitting match ensued once back inside the ring, Evans took to the top rope trying to land one of his signature high stakes offensive moves, but would be flattened by the massive (and loaded) fist of Briggs. Given the way Josh earned the unpopular victory, it is doubtful this situation is over.
Backstage, NXT Champion Oba Femi and number one contender Ricky Saints were talking in GM Ava’s office. Ava informed the two that they will appear on The Grayson Waller Effect next week to “air their grievances” before their all important match.
The returning DIY came out to continue their business with TNA Champion Trick Williams. Williams informed DIY that he did not come along and was joined by his long time tag partner and former rival Carmello Hayes. DIY challenged ‘Trick Mello Gang’ to a tag match next week at NXT Homecoming; this era spanning match has the potential to be one of the biggest tag matches in NXT history.
Match Two
First Round Match in the WWE Speed Championship Tournament:
Lainey Reid Defeated Faby Apache Via Pinfall
The very fast paced match began with Apache taking the fight to Reid with a precise dropkick. Knowing the danger she was in and the match’s rigid three minute time limit, Reid broke out a few innovative pinfall attempts. With only twenty seconds to spare, Apache was distracted by her future opponent Natalya, allowing Reid to hit a running knee and advance in the tournament. Reid will now face Candice LeRea in the tournament’s final round and Apache will have the chance to gain some revenge when she faces Natalya this Friday at WWE World’s Collide.
Match Three
NXT Tag Team Championship Match:
Dark State (Champions Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin With Cutler James and Saquon Shugars) Defeated Hank and Tank Via Pinfall
The former champions started this match by isolating Osiris, trying to wear down the powerhouse of Dark State. Not surprisingly, the numbers advantage eventually came into play as Cutler James got involved and attacked Hank. This strategy did not work as planned as Cutler said the name of Joe Hendry and he appeared. Hendry chased Cutler through the ring and as he was leaving, Osiris reversed a roll up attempt and helped Dion pin Hank to retain the championships.
Backstage, Myles Borne attacked Lexis King in the locker room.
Match Four
Flag Match:
Tavion Heights Defeated NXT North American Champion ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page
The two long term rivals had a fairly even exchange during the first moments of NXT’s first ever flag match. All Ego used his experience advantage to punish Heights and prevent Tavion from capturing his country’s flag. In the end, right as it looked like Page was going to win, Heights suplexed him from the top rope. This drop was so impactful, Heights was able to capture the American Flag and wave it proudly.
After the match, ‘Prince Pretty’ Tyler Breeze returned to NXT and took a signature selfie with the fallen Ethan Page. Later in the evening it was announced that the two will face off for the NXT North American Championship next week at NXT Homecoming.
Match Five
Triple Threat Elimination Match For The WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Number One Contendership:
The Culling (Tatum Paxley and Izzi Dame With Shawn Spears) Defeated ZaRuca (Zaria and NXT North American Champion Sol Ruca) and Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley and Jazmyn Nyx With Jacy Jayne) Via Pinfall
This chaotic multi woman tag match had a lot of “blink and you’ll miss it” action where each time would have the chance to shine. ZaRuca had some miscommunication when Ruca accidentally ‘snatched the soul’ of her own partner, allowing the opportunistic Nyx to pin the powerhouse; picking up the first elimination. After some very impressive action, The Culling showed their tag team cohesion with a kick/spinning neckbreaker combination before Dame dropped Nyx with a chokebomb which ended the match. The Culling will face WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss.
After the match, Jayne dressed down her stablemates for losing the match. Fatal Influence’s squabbling would be interrupted by WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, Rhea Ripley and Stephanie Vaquer. The NXT alumni challenged Fatal Influence to a six woman tag match next week at NXT Homecoming.
