The Twisted Wrestling Alliance has taken to social media to announce former WWF & WCW enhancement talent Bob Cook has suffered an apparent heart attack and is undergoing tests.
A veteran of some of wrestling’s most storied territories, Bob Cook built a respected career throughout the 1980s and early 1990s across Championship Wrestling from Florida, Jim Crockett Promotions, World Championship Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Federation.
Trained by the legendary Boris Malenko, Cook debuted in 1981 and quickly became a fixture in Championship Wrestling from Florida during the early years of his career. In 1987, he formed the Mighty Yankees tag team with Jerry Grey, working as Mighty Yankee No. 2. The duo captured the NWA Florida Tag Team Championship after defeating Mike Graham and Steve Keirn, though they dropped the belts back to Graham and Keirn a month later. Cook and Grey also took the Mighty Yankees act to Memphis before disbanding in 1988, with Cook additionally teaming with Bucky Seigler in the territory. During this period he also made appearances in Jim Crockett Promotions’ Mid-Atlantic region.
Following the closures of CWA, Championship Wrestling from Florida, and Mid-Atlantic, Cook joined World Championship Wrestling in 1989, where he became a reliable enhancement wrestler for some of the company’s biggest stars. Over the next several years he shared the ring with Sting, Brian Pillman, Mick Foley, Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, the Steiner Brothers, Lex Luger, Ron Simmons, Dustin Rhodes, and many more. Cook remained with WCW until 1994.
He transitioned to the World Wrestling Federation in 1995, working opposite top talent such as Bam Bam Bigelow, Bob Holly, the 1-2-3 Kid, Hakushi, Lex Luger, Kama, Davey Boy Smith, and Savio Vega before retiring from the ring in 1996.
Cook’s career spanned more than a decade and touched nearly every major promotion of his era, leaving behind a body of work remembered by fans of classic territorial and early national-era wrestling.
The Twisted Wrestling Alliance posted the following:
Bob Cook has suffered what appears to be a heart attack and was hospitalized at around 1:00 a.m. this morning. He is currently undergoing tests. We are certain that Bob will be grateful for your well wishes. Professional Wrestling is a storytelling platform, with the ring serving as a literal stage. Bob’s generation was skilled at crafting compelling narratives, as told by the iconic performances of Harley Race and Jerry Lawler, who could engage audiences for extended periods. Twisted Wrestling Alliance is fortunate to have Bob Cook as an integral part of our team, and we appreciate his contributions. Thank you, sir. Stay steady. Get Well. 💖 #twistedwrestlingstudios 💪
I had the opportunity to sit and interview Bob on his wrestling career last year.
