NWA National Champion Mike Mondo has issued a fiery response following the announcement that AEW and Tony Khan will be introducing a new “National” championship.

Taking to social media, Mondo made his stance clear, emphasizing the history and legitimacy of the NWA National Championship, a title that has been recognized for decades within the National Wrestling Alliance.

“Let me be CLEAR. There is only ONE NWA & there is only one PRESTIGIOUS National Championship that holds legit lineage & has for decades,” Mondo wrote. “So to Tony Khan or anyone else confused… here’s the legit title, with the company it belongs to & the legit National Champion! MY NAME IS MIKE MONDO.”

Mondo’s statement reinforces the NWA’s claim to the heritage of the National title, originally established in the early 1980s and held by names such as Tully Blanchard, The Barbarian, and Magnum T.A.

Neither AEW nor Tony Khan have responded publicly to Mondo’s comments as of press time.
