The show kicked off with the new NXT Heavyweight champion Ricky Saints trying to celebrate his hard earned victory. Saints was interrupted by NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne, NXT GM Ava and TNA ‘Director of Authority’ Santino Marella. Each brand’s respective authority figure expressed the importance of selecting the right superstars to represent them at the upcoming cross promotional showdown event next week. Marella announced his teams will be led by Mike Santana and TNA Knockouts Champion Kelani Jordan. Ava chose to have the champions, Jayne and Saints, represent NXT and everything else would be decided throughout the night before the NXT TNA summit. 

Backstage, future opponents Leon Slater and Je’Von Evans were confronted by The Culling, who challenged them to a tag team match later in the evening.

Match One:

Jaida Parker Defeated  ‘The Bougie Bully’ Lash Legend Via Pinfall

The impassioned powerhouses barely waited for the bell to finish ringing before continuing their animosities, as they proceeded to charge at one another. Neither woman was able to maintain momentum in the early moments of the match as both are equally motivated, strong and resilient. Legend sent a major message by recovering from Parker’s signature high step and then dropping her with a pump kick for a near fall. In the end, tonight would be Jaida’s night as she was able to keep Lash down with ‘Hipnotic’ proving that “Miss Parker Don’t Play”.  

Backstage in the locker room, Saints announced Trick Williams and Je’Von Evans will be members of Team NXT. Saints also made a match between Josh Briggs and Myles Bourne where the winner will get the final spot on the team. 

While NXT North American Champion Ethan Page was in the ring addressing the ongoing situation between him and AAA star Dr. Wagner Jr,  Ethan was interrupted by TNA Star Mustafa Ali. Ali informed the champion that he will finally have his long awaited North American Championship match next week, after earning it two years ago but then being released from WWE.

Backstage, Jacy Janyne selected Sol Ruca and Jaida Parker to be on the women’s team, then made a match between Lola Vice and Fallon Henley where the winner will receive the final spot on the team. 

Match Two

Winner Will Join the NXT Men’s Team For Showdown:

Myles Bourne Defeated Josh Briggs Via Pinfall 

Bourne used his athletic ability to gain an early advantage, throwing caution to the wind for the chance to represent NXT. The much larger and meaner Briggs used his power advantage to push around Myles, even chokeslamming him for a near fall.  In the end, Briggs ripped off the massive chain he wore around his neck and tried to hit Myles with it, but was stopped by Matt Cardona. ‘The Complete’s’ interference distracted Josh long enough for Bourne to hit a standing dropkick and the ‘Bourne Again’ zig zag neck breaker to become the final member of Team NXT. 

Backstage, Kelani Jordan was questioning the loyalty of Jordynne Grace and Joe Hendry as they both seem to have allegiances to both brands. After Kelani left, Jordynne told Joe that they “had to be a part of this somehow”.

Match Three

Winner Will Join the NXT Women’s Team For Showdown:

Lola Vice Defeated Fallon Henley (With Jacy Jayne) Via Pinfall

Once the bell rang, Vice tried to catch Henley off guard by initiating several consecutive pinfall attempts. Henley rebounded with a very innovative assisted German Suplex and sliding forearm, showing off her wrestling ability and experience. After a competitive contest, the MMA training of Vice paid off when she struck Fallon with a spinning backfist so stiff it solidified her spot on team NXT; much to the very obvious displeasure of captain Jayne. 

Backstage, Lainey Reid revealed she was the one who took out Jazmyn Nyx last week and she was the unknown assailant who helped Jayne retain her championship at No Mercy against Lola Vice because “she would do anything” for Fatal Influence. 

Match Four

Tag Team Match:

Je’Von Evans and TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater Defeated The Culling (Shawn Spears and Niko Vance With Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley) Via Pinfall

For much of the match Slater and Evans worked well as a team, utilizing classic tag team strategy and isolating Spears from his partner. Once in the ring, Niko used his strength advantage to ground the two similar high flyers to much success. Amongst a chaotic sequence, Slater landed a ‘Swanton 450’ on Spears to pick up the win for his team. 

For the NXT TNA Summit, the ringside area filled up with superstars from both brands, while each brand’s GM’s and team captains were in the ring discussing this event’s importance. Both teams revealed their final members, The four men who will represent NXT are Ricky Saints, Trick Williams, Myles Bourne and Je’Von Evans. The Four men who will represent TNA are Mike Santana, Frankie Kazarian, Moose and Leon Slater. The Four women who will represent NXT are Jacy Jayne, Sol Ruca, Jaida Parker and Lola Vice. The Four women who will represent TNA are Kelani Jordan, Jessie McKay, Cassie Lee and Mara Sade.
