The show kicked off with Ricky Saints “calling his shot” by calling out the NXT champion Oba Femi. Saints however would get Josh Briggs instead. Briggs ranted about people he deems unworthy, or outsiders as he called them, getting championship opportunities. Right as the two were about to fight, NXT GM Ava came out and told them they would have a match later tonight where the winner will face Oba Femi at WWE No Mercy.
Match One:
Kelani Jordan Defeated ‘The Glamour’ Blake Monroe Via Pinfall
The two very different wrestlers started this match with a technical exchange, before Monroe turned up the aggression with a headbutt,vicious strikes and submission attempts. As Jordan was gaining momentum, Blake’s rival Jordynne Grace came out and caused the Glamour to run away. Instead of attacking Monroe as everyone expected, Grace chased her back to the ring, forcing her to finish the match. Back in the ring, Kelani would hit Blake with a saito suplex and a ‘One of a Kind’split legged moonsault to pick up the victory.
Match Two
Blindfold Match:
Lexis King Defeated Myles Borne Via Pinfall
After showboating and disrespecting his opponent, King would be continuously embarrassed and out wrestled by Borne. Eventually, the two would exchange strikes, each trying to prove a point to the other. In the final moments of the match, the official would be inadvertently blinded, allowing Lexis to low blow Borne and hit him with ‘The Coronation’ spinning neckbreaker to pick up the unpopular pinfall.
Backstage, Charlie Dempsey told Ren Sinclair that he found her a tag partner for her match; Kendal Grey.
Match Three
Tag Team Match:
The Culling (Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley With Shawn Spears) Defeated Ren Sinclair and Kendal Grey (With Charlie Dempsey) Via Pinfall
The powerful Dame had her hands full with Ren and Grey, who showed great tag team cohesion by swarming and frustrating their opponents. While Tatum was holding her own, Izzi tagged herself in the match, showing a little bit of a communication breakdown. In the final moments of the match, Grey locked Paxley in an armbar and Dame chose to hit Sinclair with a chokebomb and win the match instead of helping her partner.
Match Four
NXT Championship Number One Contender’s Match:
Ricky Saints Defeated Josh Briggs Via Pinfall
Briggs overpowered Saints for the majority of the match, managing to hit Ricky with a ‘black hole slam’ for a near fall. The crafty Saints would use Briggs’s momentum against him, often sending him into the ringpost and into the steel stairs. After a fairly one sided contest, Saints hit two massive consecutive DDT’s to pick up the very hard earned win.
After the number one contender’s match, The NXT champion Oba Femi came out to address his next challenger. While they were exchanging words, the lights went out signalling the appearance of the NXT Tag Team Champions Dark State. Fortunately for Saints and Femi, the former tag champs Hank and Tank came out to even the numbers.
Backstage, NXT GM announced that NXT will host a tournament to crown a new number one contender for the WWE Speed champion. This tournament will include Candice LeRae, Lainey Reed, Faby Apache and Xia Brookside. LeRae and Xia will face one another next week and the eventual winner will face WWE Speed Champion Sol Ruca at No Mercy, on September 27th.
Match Five:
Tyra Mae Steele (With Tavion Heights) Defeated Alba Fyre (With Chelsea Green, Piper Niven and Ethan Page) Via Pinfall
The Olympic gold medalist used her technical skills to gain an early advantage, managing to suplex her opponent. Fyre used her experience to slow down Steele, planting her with a DDT for a near fall. While Page was trying to interfere, Fyre attempted a superkick but would be rolled up earning Tyra her first victory. After the match, Chelsea and Ethan would attack Tavion and Tyra, eventually covering Heights with the Canadian flag.
Backstage, NXT GM Ava informed Hank and Tank that they will team up with Saints and Femi to take on Dark State in an eight man tag match next week.
It was announced that Lash Legend and Jaida Parker will square off next week.
Match Six
Six Woman Tag Match:
NXT North American Women’s Champion Sol Ruca, Zaria and Lola Vice Defeated Fatal Influence (NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henly and Jazmyn Nyx) Via Pinfall
Double champ Sol Ruca kicked off this match, using her signature high speed offense while facing off against Henley and Nyx. Future opponents Vice and Jayne faced off for a brief moment in an impressive preview of No Mercy. Fatal Influence used their cohesion to take control of the match, utilizing quick tags to prevent Sol from making a tag to her teammates. After she absolutely punished Fatal Influence with rapid fire kicks, Lola VIce struck Fallon with a spinning backfist to pick up the victory for her team.
