Former AEW Women’s World Champion Jamie Hayter is currently out of action due to an injury sustained during her recent match against Mercedes Moné in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament at Double or Nothing.

Dave Meltzer confirmed the news on Wrestling Observer Radio, revealing that Hayter’s absence from AEW programming over the past several weeks stems from the injury she suffered in the May 25 match.

“I guess she was hurt in the Mercedes Moné match,” Meltzer said. “So when they did the Thekla injury angle, that was set up to cover for [Hayter’s] injury and to get a storyline reason for her to be out.”

The angle in question occurred on the Dynamite episode following Double or Nothing, where Hayter was attacked backstage by debuting STARDOM star Thekla. At the time, fans assumed it was the beginning of a new feud between the two, but the storyline was not followed up on in subsequent weeks.

Meltzer clarified that the injury forced AEW to halt any immediate plans involving Hayter and Thekla. “When she is ready, they do have an angle they can follow up on,” he noted.

Fightful also reported this week that Hayter is not currently cleared to compete and that AEW does not have a confirmed timetable for her return. The specific nature of Hayter’s injury has not been disclosed publicly, but the promotion is said to be hopeful about her eventual return.

Hayter, 30, remains one of the most popular and respected wrestlers in AEW’s women’s division. Before her injury, she picked up key tournament wins over Billie Starkz and Kris Statlander, building strong momentum ahead of her clash with Moné.

As AEW continues to evolve its women’s roster with new faces like Thekla and the rise of stars such as Mercedes Moné, Hayter’s return will no doubt be eagerly anticipated by fans and likely to spark unfinished business when she’s cleared to return to the ring.
