Lucha Libre AAA is set to deliver a blockbuster show this Sunday, June 15, as Triplemanía Regia returns to Monterrey with a loaded card and a high-stakes rematch in the main event.
At a press conference held earlier this week, AAA finalized the card for one of its marquee events, confirming that El Hijo del Vikingo will defend the AAA Mega Championship against Alberto El Patron in the show’s headline bout. This rematch follows their first encounter on May 31, where Vikingo dethroned El Patron to win the title, becoming champion just in time for AAA’s Worlds Collide event with WWE. Vikingo has since made a successful defense against WWE’s Chad Gable, further solidifying his reign.
The tension between Vikingo and El Patron boiled over at the press conference, where an angle was staged involving El Patron launching a surprise attack on the reigning champion. With the rivalry reignited, their rematch promises to be a volatile and emotional showdown.
Also announced for Triplemanía Regia is a major cross-promotional bout, as TNA X-Division Champion Moose will put his title on the line in a four-way match against Joe Hendry, El Mesias, and El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. This match continues AAA’s partnership with TNA Wrestling, which also sees Nic and Ryan Nemeth participating in a four-way match for the AAA Tag Team Championship. They’ll challenge reigning champions Forastero & Sansón, as well as Psycho Clown & Pagano, and Angel & Berto.
Other matches set for the event include:
- La Parka, Laredo Kid & Octagón Jr. vs. Abismo Negro Jr., Taurus & Histeria
- AAA Reina de Reinas Champion Lady Flammer defends against Dalys and Lady Shani in a triple threat match
- Mr. Iguana, El Fiscal & Niño Hamburguesa vs. SB Kento, Takuma & Nobu San
While no U.S. broadcast plans have been confirmed for the event, fans in Mexico will be able to watch Triplemanía Regia on Max and Space.
This year’s Triplemanía takes place amid major corporate developments, as AAA is currently in the process of being acquired by WWE, with the deal expected to close in the third quarter of 2025. That raises questions about the future of stars like El Patron — a former WWE Champion under the name Alberto Del Rio — and whether he could be featured in any crossover with WWE moving forward.
As Triplemanía Regia approaches, all eyes are on Monterrey to see how the Mega Championship picture evolves — and whether El Hijo del Vikingo can overcome one of the most controversial and experienced challengers of his career once again.
